EDIT (a few hours later):
Well, I’ve gotten some responses from someone in an admin position at dreamcast-talk (yay!), and they seem to be readily rectifying the situation at the moment!
Original Post follows:
Apparently, dreamcast-talk.com has been using the Sylverant PSO server for their private server for some time now, without even bothering to tell me about it, or even acknowledge that this is the case. They’re perfectly legally allowed to be using the server code (it is GPLed for a reason), but the fact that they’re not even saying where that code came from, or how they managed to make such a server really pisses me off. Not to mention the fact that they’re directly going against my wishes by setting up a private shipgate.
That said, I just sent them a message on their forums, which is included in the full text of this post…
Here’s what I wrote to them on their forums, since I suspect it might quite possibly be deleted without getting any sort of answer from them(Got replies, so yeah…):
So, I’m just wondering how long you all have been using My PSO server software, without even giving me the least bit of credit for it? Heck, you even copied my words directly out of my Wiki, and didn’t even bother to source me for them.
Also, I know you’ve modified the code, being that I purposely disabled GC users connecting with PC or DC users because of the fact that its buggy. You’ve obviously taken out that precautionary check.
I’d appreciate you all at least giving me credit for writing the Server software that you’re using, and you know, contributing back any changes to the source that you’ve made (being that, you know, the thing is GPLed anyway).
You’ve already disrespected my stated wishes enough, please at least grant me the dignity to at least tell people who wrote the software that you’re using. Man up, and put up the source code. Do your responsibility to the open source nature of the Sylverant project.
