Happy New Year!

Well, even if it is a few hours early for me, officially by the server’s time (UTC), it’s the new year. So, it’s time to unveil a new feature of the server that hopefully some people will find enjoyable. 🙂

Last year, I started accepting donations in Dogecoins that would be put toward server events and whatnot. Today begins the first of these events! As of the time of the writing of this post, the donations wallet has just under 14,000 Dogecoins in it, so I’ll put 7,000 coins up for grabs in the event that starts today.

How the event will work is as follows, anyone who wishes to participate in this event (as well as any future events) must be logged into his or her account on the server (i.e, you have to have used the /login command in-game), and then must use the new /trackkills command. Once you do so, the server will keep track of the enemies you kill in-game and will automatically record them when you leave the team you’re in. Note: the new /trackkills command and enemy tracking now works on Iselia, Vega, Altimira, and Palmacosta.

For the current event running, your kill counts of certain Episode 1 enemies (no, I’m not telling you which ones, but feel free to try to figure it out 😉 ) will be totaled up across all free-play (non quest, non challenge, non battle) teams that you participate in for the next month. At the end of the month, the top three players by that count will receive a prize. It’s as simple as that. First place will take home 4,000 DOGE, second place will take home 2,000 DOGE, and third place will take home 1,000 DOGE. Winners will be contacted by me after the end of the month to figure out where to send their winnings (and if any winners wish to reinvest their winnings in the donations pool, they are more than welcome to do so).

Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys our first server-wide event and I hope everyone has a great new year.

PS: Continue reading for answers to a few questions you might have…

Frequently (or not so much) asked questions about server events:

  • Do I need to run /trackkills every time? – No, once you log in (with “/login username password” on the server), and run the /trackkills command once, the shipgate will remember that you have opted-in to the server event and you won’t need to run the command again.
  • Why don’t enemies killed in a quest count? – I didn’t want anyone using any potential quests that might have a lot of enemies to get an unfair advantage for the event, so I set the event up so it wouldn’t count stuff killed in quests.
  • Why didn’t my kills get tracked? – First of all, as has already been said, if you played in a quest or a challenge or battle mode stage, nothing will get tracked. The team must be in free play mode the entire time you’re in it in order for your kills to count (I intend to make it so kills accrued before a quest starts count at a later date, but that code is not currently in the server Any ship updated to r774 or later will send count updates to the shipgate when a quest starts, so once a ship is at that version, you won’t have to worry about it. As of right now, Iselia, Altimira, and Vega should all meet this requirement). Second, you might not have killed any of the enemies that are being counted. Only 15 Episode I enemy types are being counted for this event.
  • What enemy types are being counted for this event? – That’s classified information. 😉 Besides, it’s more fun if you don’t know. I’ll probably reveal that information once the event is over, but until then, I’m not saying anything.
  • What if there’s a tie? – Well, hopefully there won’t be. 😉 But, if there is a tie, then the tie will be broken by a fair method, such as a coin flip or a random number generator (if there is more than two players tied).

More to come later, if people ask any more questions. 😉

Do you need to use these commands each time?

    • BlueCrab says:

As Aleron Ives already said, you only have to run the “/trackkills” command once (which requires being logged in, so you have to use the “/login username password” command before /trackkills). Once you do that, it will save your preference in the database on the shipgate, so it will follow you around from ship to ship and session to session.

  2. Aleron Ives says:

Nope. Once you log in and enable kill tracking, your preference is saved to your account.

  3. Tangier says:

hiya how do i login i was online n i typed in /login command in-game n nuthing happen n i typed in /trackkills command it said you must be login in to use this command i already have an account on here or do i need to make a new account or am i doing something wrong thank you Tangier…

    • BlueCrab says:

You have to login with your username and password. So, if your username is “bob” and your password is “passwd”, you’d have to type this in-game:
      /login bob passwd

You should get a message then that you have successfully logged in. If you don’t get a message back saying that you logged in successfully, that either means that you got your username/password wrong, or the guildcard is not registered to your account. Try logging in on the website and see if you can verify that everything is OK that way at that point.
      Then, you’d have to type:
      /trackkills

You should then get a message that kill tracking has been enabled.

If you have trouble logging in, please let me know your username and the guildcard number on the character where you’re trying to log in, and I’ll take a look.

Thank you bluecrab for the help i got it to work, Tangier……. 🙂

        • BlueCrab says:

Glad to hear. Enjoy the event. 🙂

          • Blu says:

Hey BlueCrab — I think my serial and access key are not registered on my Account, so I can’t login within the game to track kills.

            • BlueCrab says:

Based on your email address, I’m going to guess you’re the same guy I just helped out on the Facebook page. 😉

  4. Sharkleey says:

is this event for the gamecube PSO also or is it just for the dreamcast and the PC PSO cause i been playing this event for awhile on the gamecube and i havent gotten no trackkills i put in my /user name and password and /trackkills and its all enabled i played episode 1 atleast a few times maybe 10 or more times and nothing thanks for the reply.

    • BlueCrab says:

The event is for all versions of the game supported by the server. The Gamecube version should work fine, as long as the ship has been properly configured for supporting the event on Gamecube (which, as far as I know, Iselia, Vega, and Palmacosta all should be fine).

If you want me to see if there’s anything in the database, let me know your guildcard number and I’ll take a look.

  5. Sharkleey says:

    thank you for the info

  6. Tangier says:

no quests and i played alone i played from forest 1 to ruins 3 i don’t like playin with other players.

    • BlueCrab says:

Never mind… There’s definitely an issue in the server… Sega did something stupid on the Gamecube version with one particular packet that the kill tracking code uses… Ugh.

    • BlueCrab says:

And… It’s fixed now, on Iselia anyway. You can check if it is fixed on other ships by typing “/ver” and making sure that it reports revision 777 or later.

  7. Tangier says:

i did check and it says revision 777 on Iselia and it says revision 775 on Vega thank you,Tangier.

    • BlueCrab says:

I cannot update Vega nor Palmacosta, as they are not hosted by me. Until they report revision 777, don’t expect kill tracking to work on them for the Gamecube version of the game.

It should, however, work fine on Iselia (which is up-to-date).

EDIT: As of the evening of January 12th, Vega should be up-to-date as well.
