Testing needed!

So, I’ve pretty much got all the BB support I’m going to work on for a while done, and I want to make sure I haven’t screwed anything up with the other versions of the game. To that end, Iselia (and only Iselia at the moment) is now running the current version of the ship server (synchronized to my codebase, not the SVN), with BB support enabled.

Please, if you get a chance to try things out on it, play around and make sure I haven’t broken anything (in limited testing, we’ve found a few things I broke already, and fixed them). Leave a comment on this news story if you find anything broken, even if it seems minor.

Its much better to find out about broken stuff now than later on when it inevitably gets bigger and more annoying to deal with.

If all goes well over the next day or so, I’ll assume everything’s good, and commit this massive changeset up to the SVN. Also, I’ll enable people to set up their accounts for Blue Burst support sometime tomorrow if all goes well.

Will be testing with my sub character nano.
I’ll let you know if I find something 🙂

Ok, I played through forest 1 and did not see anything that looks like a bug.
Wasn’t able to do any further testing, but will let you know when I have more time to test.

Cheers, and keep up the good work!

Thanks for testing things out! Glad to hear nothing seemed broken in your testing!

Didn’t see anything either, i can’t say i tested everything, but general gameplay seems ok, word select is fine, chat is fine, warping is fine, switching lobbies/ships/blocks is fine, quests are ok (i sended a pm about a possible quest duplication).

Hey man I stumbled across this looking on the web. I am actually just getting into Linux and think this would be a great project to get involved in. Hit me up so we can discuss details.

Getting the following errors when running ./configure.ac

./configure.ac: line 1: dnl: command not found
./configure.ac: line 2: dnl: command not found
./configure.ac: line 3: dnl: command not found
./configure.ac: line 4: syntax error near unexpected token `(‘
      ./configure.ac: line 4: `dnl Copyright (C) 2009, 2011 Lawrence Sebald’

      • BlueCrab says:

You don’t run configure.ac directly. It is what is used to produce the ./configure script that one is used to having for configuring software on *nix. You have to use the whole automake/autoconf suite to make the configure scripts and Makefile.in files.

There’s a guide on the Google Code page for building it with Cygwin that mostly applies to *nix as well.

That all said, there is an issue with using Sylverant on Linux (an issue with the way Linux handles TCP receive windows) that prevents it from working properly on Linux. The only OS that I directly test on is FreeBSD, although it should work on other BSD and BSD-derived OSes (so, for instance NetBSD, OpenBSD, and Mac OS X).

If you’re seriously trying to play around with Sylverant for some reason, I recommend that you come to my IRC channel: #ljsdcdev on chat.freenode.net. That’s pretty much the easiest place to find me.
